Argentinian Unions Prepare Position Against Labor Reform

Buenos Aires, November 25 (NA) – On Tuesday, the labor movement was defining the details of its position of rejection towards the labor reform that the CGT will present this Wednesday to the Mayo Council, the body where the Government will present the package of reforms to the parties, which the administration of Javier Milei seeks to approve in the extraordinary sessions of Congress. According to what the Argentine News Agency (NA) was able to learn from union sources, the head of the UOCRA, Gerardo Martínez, who is the representative of the labor movement in the Mayo Council, was holding conversations on Tuesday with different leaders to define a common position. The head of the Railway Union, Sergio Sasia, who is not opposed to a reform as long as collective labor agreements are modified, was preparing to communicate by phone with Martínez on Tuesday night in order to reach a unified position in the run-up to the meeting. Sasia had already declared to the Argentine News Agency that the CGT must have an 'offensive agenda' to discuss the labor reform with the Government and the business sector. Mayo Council The Mayo Council will meet this Wednesday at 11:30 for the last time this year to advance in the presentation of the legislative projects that emerged from the May Pact signed in the province of Tucuman, and amid the negotiations underway for the 2026 Budget and the labor and tax reforms. According to what the Argentine News Agency learned from official sources, the Executive is careful to avoid leaks of the content of the 'labor modernization,' as they define it, so it is betting on delaying the sending of the texts on which the Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger, is working. In that body, Martínez, who is also the Secretary of International Relations of the CGT, serves as the representative of the labor movement.
